MacPutty Privacy Policy
Publisher: ITResident. Last updated: October 25, 2026.
Data handled by the app
MacPutty connects directly to servers you choose. The publisher does not operate a relay service or collect your connection profiles, private keys, credentials or terminal contents. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.
Saved sessions and preferences remain on your Mac. Private keys stay in files you select. macOS security-scoped bookmarks remember your permission to access selected files; bookmarks are not copies of private keys. Passwords and passphrases are requested by the SSH tools and are not intentionally stored by MacPutty. Terminal text may remain in memory while the session is open.
Your servers and optional logs
Your username, public authentication data, commands and terminal traffic are sent to the server you choose as needed for the connection. A private key is used locally for authentication and is not sent as the private key file. Server administrators may keep their own logs under their policies. If you enable local session logging, terminal output is written to the destination you select; such logs may include sensitive information. Logging is off by default.
Your choices
You may delete saved sessions and optional logs. The Mac App Store edition stores settings and bookmarks in its app container; the direct-download edition uses your user Library and application support folders. To remove preferences, back up any information you wish to keep, then remove the relevant app data. Key files outside the container remain under your control. Exported profile files contain connection details and key paths, not copies of key files.
Website privacy
The MacPutty pages use no analytics, advertising scripts, embedded third-party fonts or cookies. The web server records requests, including IP address, time, requested URL and user agent, for operation and security. Requests for the downloadable DMG are also logged. This policy covers /macputty/; other pages on itresident.com may use different services.
Support and website
If you email support, the publisher receives the information you send. Do not send passwords or private keys. The hosting provider for this website may process routine web-request logs; this app policy does not assert that a website host keeps no logs.
